Resumo: A figura do palhaço é frequentemente vista como inofensiva e doce. Essa percepção sofreu uma mudança nas últimas décadas e o amado personagem de circo passou a ser associado com características malignas. O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar o personagem do palhaço dentro do enredo de It, livro escrito pelo autor de horror Stephen King, publicado pela primeira vez em 1986. A análise é baseada na abordagem de arquétipos proposta por Carl Gustav Jung em duas de suas obras: Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious (1968) e Four Archetypes (1971). A análise consiste em desvendar a figura do palhaço salientando as razões pelas quais não é incomum considerar o mesmo como um ser maligno e não mais como um personagem inofensivo. Inicialmente apresenta-se o contexto histórico da origem do palhaço, em seguida, a análise do personagem na trama de It. Finalmente, o estudo sugere Pennywise o Palhaço Dançante como um perfeito exemplo de trickster, arquétipo explicado por Jung (1968)

Can High School Students Check the Veracity of Information About COVID-19? A Critical Media Literacy Proposal in ESL Classes

In a globalized and digital world, critical media literacy is imperative when selecting the content we consume amid countless offers.Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze how 3rd year high school students from an English as a Second Language class in Brazil check the veracity of information regarding COVID-19 available in a video and the resources they used when writing a journalistic article in pairs demystifying fake news.To this end, firstly students analyzed news about COVID-19 from international websites, secondly, they discussed aspects of a video that circulated widely in WhatsApp groups, and, finally, they produced journalistic articles demystifying fake news about COVID-19. The findings suggest a great capacity of students to justify their perceptions about what is fact and what is fake once they were provoked to do so, showing a high level of critical media literacy and news literacy

Therefore, the purpose of this case study is to analyze which resources 3rd year high school students (16-17 years old) from an English as a Second Language class in Brazil use in the construction of authorial journalistic articles demystifying fake news about COVID-19 and if the interventions conducted previous to the task were helpful in their process of developing critical media literacy. To this end, firstly students analyzed news about COVID-19 from international websites; secondly, they discussed aspects of a video that circulated widely in WhatsApp chat groups; and, finally, they produced journalistic articles demystifying popular fake news about COVID-19 in Brazil. The findings suggest a great capacity of students to justify their perceptions about what is fact and what is fake once they were provoked to do so, showing the development of critical media literacy and news literacy through the arguments presented in their articles

ISTO É UMA PROPAGANDA SEXISTA? ANÁLISE DE PRÁTICA DE LETRAMENTO CRÍTICO EM L2

O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar o resultado de três trabalhos de uma turma de 1a série do Ensino Médio, de uma escola bilíngue (português-inglês), em uma proposta de letramento crítico em L2 (língua inglesa). Os alunos foram desafiados a fazerem uma releitura de uma propaganda em língua inglesa com cunho sexista, tornando-a neutra. As seguintes categorias foram consideradas para a análise das releituras: 1) sintaxe/léxico, 2) layout e 3) propósito das propagandas. A maioria das releituras foram bem-sucedidas, atingindo as expectativas em relação ao uso da L2 e às categorias de análise descritas anteriormente, mostrando um alto nível de criticidade e proficiência na L2. Apesar de nem todas as releituras terem atingido o objetivo específico de neutralizar o cunho sexista das propagandas, todas demonstraram desenvolvimento do letramento crítico em L2, demonstrando criticidade ao analisar as propagandas originais e domínio de elementos linguísticos e não linguísticos em suas releituras
